SAFSI About Us image_edited.jpg

Our Mission

Sydney Australian Filipino Seniors Inc (SAFSI) is dedicated to improving the lives of senior citizens via social engagement and community participation. We foster connections among seniors to enhance their well-being and social interactions. By organizing events and activities, we create spaces where seniors can connect, share experiences, and participate in meaningful community-based initiatives. Our goal is to ensure that every senior feels valued and included.

Our Story

Sydney Australian Filipino Seniors Inc (SAFSI) is a not for profit organization based in Western Sydney. Founded in 1987 by a group of visionary elders in the Blacktown district, SAFSI was established to address the growing need for a support network for senior citizens within the Filipino-Australian community. Since then, the organisation has been steadfast in its mission to promote the well-being of seniors through social engagement, advocacy, and active participation in local events. SAFSI’s monthly social meetings, held every third Sunday are a cornerstone of its community activities. These gatherings blend Filipino and Australian traditions, featuring birthday celebrations, cultural performances, health updates, and even “dancercise” sessions to keep members active and healthy. These events are not just fun- they foster connection, inclusion, and emotional support among members.

“SAFSI is more than just a senior’s group- it’s a family,” a member shared. “It keeps us connected to our roots and engaged with the community”. Beyond its internal gatherings, SAFSI is also a visible and vibrant presence in broader community. Members regularly participate in public events such as the annual Blacktown Streets Alive Parade and various Filipino cultural festivals like the annual Filipino Christmas Festival in Tumbalong Park. SAFSI is also committed to giving back, recently (2025) raising $503.00 for the Cancer Council during its Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser. “SAFSI is a testament to the enduring value and contributions of our senior citizens,” said one of the founding members. “We are proud of what we’ve built, and we look forward to many more years of fellowship and service” engagement.
